Core Departments

EnglishClassroom
The English/Language Arts program at Bear Creek High School encourages students to think critically and creatively; express individual ideas; understand and participate meaningfully in both speech and writing; formulate and answer questions; and search for, organize, evaluate, and apply relevant information. We are concerned with content and process-- not just what students learn, but how they learn. We emphasize literacy - the ability to think, process, acquire knowledge for reasoning and communication and to use available resources to achieve these purposes.

Math
The math department at BCHS has courses to meet every student’s needs. We offer multiple Honors and Advanced Placement classes, as well as several courses where students can receive college credit through the CU Succeed Gold Program at CU Denver. Our teachers are dedicated to ensuring success for all students and work diligently with students inside and outside of the scheduled class time.

Science
The Bear Creek Science Department offers courses in Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Incoming freshmen who are advanced in math can choose to take Honors Biology and then move on to Honors Chemistry as Sophomores. BCHS is proud to offer a variety of STEM courses, with our Pre-Engineering program, Process Technology courses and our Biomedical Science offerings. Students who choose the Process Technology and Biomedical courses can receive college credit towards an associates degree in these fields. Our science program provides students many opportunities to explore science up close including hands-on projects, field trips and even a human cadaver dissection in Anatomy and Physiology.

Social Studies
Our Social Studies Department is proud to host one of the broadest programs within the district and state. We currently offer a multitude of core classes and electives including Anthropology, Sociology, and Psychology. In addition, we offer eight different Honors and AP course options with the goal of adding several more over the next couple of years. Students now also have the opportunity to earn college credit for their Sociology and Economics classes from CU Denver and Colorado Christian University, respectively. Every teacher in our department emphasizes strong literacy and application skills while focusing on creativity, critical thinking and technological skills.
