COLLEGE HAPPENINGS:
College Night will be Monday, October 18, 2021 from 6:30-8:30pm.  From 6:00-6:30pm will be a mini College Fair.  Starting at 6:30pm, there will be a financial aid presentation, followed by two breakout sessions starting at 7:15pm.  The breakout sessions will include:

  • Community Colleges—what they are and the benefits to attending
  • Finding the Right College Fit
  • Application Tips and Tricks
  • FAFSA completion session  

You will be able to attend two of the four sessions.  If you choose to attend the FAFSA completion session, please bring the documents referenced in this link to be able to use your time efficiently. 

The 2021-2022 Colorado Collegiate Handbook will be available for sale for $5.  This book is published by Colorado Council on High School/College Relations and provides updates on almost every college and university in Colorado including tuition, majors, programs, and activities.  If you cannot attend but would like to purchase this resource, contact Kristen Kofoed, 303-982-8721.

Free College Application Day$ are October 19-21, 2021.  Applications submitted to public (and many private) colleges in Colorado on these days can be submitted without an application fee.  Click here for more information.

If you need help with your applications, please join us Tuesday, October 19th from 11:00am-3:00pm in the counseling office for College Application Day.  We will be available to help you submit those college applications for free on this day!

Colorado Virtual Fair: September 28-30, 2021 from 5:00-7:45pm each evening. 
During the Colorado Virtual College Fair, you will have the chance to hear from many different colleges. You can choose which colleges you want to hear from by registering for their sessions. You and your family can ask questions of the college representatives throughout the presentations too!  The program will also include college knowledge sessions on topics such as finding a college that fits, paying for college, and writing a college essay presented by college admission counselors.Click here to register, see the schedule, and see which colleges are attending.  

NACAC Virtual College Fairs:  College Fairs that include colleges/universities across the United States.  Dates available in October and November.  Click the link for more information and to register.

Colorado Council College Fairs:  Various dates and locations available for in-person college fairs that include mostly colleges in Colorado.  Virtual College Fair available in November as well.  Click the link for more information and to register. 


FINANCIAL AID:

Reach out to your student's counselor if you have questions. 

Virtual Financial Aid Literacy Mini-Series: 2 virtual sessions on "Understanding Financial Aid and FAFSA" presented by Lesa Briggs from CU Denver.  You do NOT need to planning to attend CU Denver to take advantage of these workshops.  Sessions are Thursday, 9/30 at 5:30pm and Thursday, 10/7 at 5:30pm.  Click the link for more information, to register and receive the zoom link.

Financial Aid/FAFSA session on Tuesday, 9/28 from 5:30-7pm presented by the experts at Red Rocks Community College.  This event is designed for families and students and will provide general information regarding financial aid for college and the FAFSA.  **If you were not able to attend this presentation, there is a link to the recording HERE.

Individual and small group FAFSA completion meetings will be held in person and are scheduled for October 9th, November 13th, and December 11th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the RRCC Lakewood Campus Learning Commons.  CLICK HERE for the flyer with more information.



JOB OPPORTUNITIES

SAE is currently hiring a part-time Program Aide or Leader for subbing opportunities in the Littleton and South Lakewood area. I am reaching out to see if you have any high school students that may be interested in working with children ages 5 – 12 after school, and are available M-F. We may have need before school (7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.) for any students that have more flexible schedules.

Following are some details of the positions:
Support Director in a structured Before and After School Program

  • Hourly salary starts at $12.44 per hour depending on experience
  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Hours are approx. 12-15 per week, although not guaranteed (potential for summer hours, if enrollment requires additional staff)
  • Shifts are mostly after school, M-F  3:30 – 5:30/6p.m. (some before school shifts may be available)
  • Variable straight shifts may be offered full days and breaks depending on staff availability and program need

·        If a position is offered, Fingerprint and Background checks (fees paid by applicant) are required before hire
