College and Career

Michelle Yeager, BCHS College & Career/Counseling Support
[email protected]   (303) 982-4525

BCHS counselors and Ms. Yeager in College & Career are available to support students in learning about all aspects of the college admissions process--from options and exploration, to scholarships, letters of recommendation, and the application process.

IMPORTANT — It is your responsibility to know your college admissions deadlines so please plan ahead. Delays in letters of recommendation, official transcripts, or school reports could jeopardize your college admission. You, the student, are responsible for checking the college's website for requirements/checklists prior to meeting with your counselor. You also need to follow the school's policy for submitting applications, including all supporting documents. When in doubt, contact the college/university admissions office to confirm application requirements.

  • Common App linking with Naviance

Common is a great way to apply to multiple schools from one platform and allows for us to send your transcript electronically. This video explains how to link Naviance to Common App https://www.screencast.com/t/gxEQkElyo

  • You can apply through Common App (make sure to match your account in Naviance) or apply through the college website.
  • Read through each school's application requirements on their admissions website.
  • In NAVIANCE -  Navigate to Colleges > Colleges I'm applying toUse the drop-down arrow and select how you will submit your application (Common App or through the college website). *
  • Use the check box to indicate if your application has already been submitted from the menu options.
  • If you select Add Application, the college is added to Colleges I'm Applying To.
  • If your college requires a LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION- request, in person of the teacher first, at least three weeks before your first application deadline. After you've spoken with the teacher, then come to counseling and work with Ms. Yeager who will use Naviance to invite the teacher to upload their letter and any other docs. Teachers write one letter for all of your college applications.  Please request letters from teachers at least three weeks in advance of the deadline. Only ask for a recommendation letter if the school requires one.
Important - You need to submit your application to the college first, BEFORE you request a transcript to be sent.  The school must have an applicant in their system in order to match the transcript to.

KEEP IN MIND: Transcripts and teacher's letters of recommendation can only be sent when school is in session. Plan ahead.  No one is available to send transcripts over days when school is out such as over winter and spring break.
