Testing

Testing is now an optional part of the college admissions process for many colleges.  Research the schools to which you are planning to apply to find their policy on submitting test scores as part of the application process.  Check out this link to find the latest information regarding the use of National Test Scores for college admissions in Colorado.

Even if you do not plan to use your SAT or ACT scores as part of your college application, these tests are one way to meet the "demonstration of knowledge" graduation requirement in Colorado.  Many free resources are available online and are well-worth the time and effort to explore. There are many opportunities to take practice tests to help improve your scores.

Many students ask about ACT vs SAT and which test they should take. Typically most colleges will accept either the ACT or SAT. Some selective colleges also require SAT II Subject Tests. Every Spring, all Juniors in Colorado take the SAT and all colleges in state accept it. To determine which test(s) you should take, always consult each specific college.

The ACT assesses skills and knowledge acquired since middle school. It consists of 4 sections: English, Math, Reading, and Science Reasoning. There is also an optional Writing test.
