COLLEGE HAPPENINGS:
FREE COLORADO COLLEGE APPLICATION DAY: Tuesday, October 15th, you can apply to colleges in Colorado for FREE!  Visit the webpage for the specific information and directions.  You must follow these to get your application fee waived on the 15th.

We still have many college visits scheduled through November!  Check them out: upcoming college visits.  All visits are in the BCHS Counseling Office unless otherwise noted.
                     Don't forget to sign up in Naviance if you want to meet with the rep!

COLLEGE FAIRS:
Take advantage of the upcoming college fair at BEAR CREEK HIGH SCHOOL!  We will have reps from 50 different colleges in attendance on Wednesday, Oct. 23rd from 9-10:30am. 
Attendance will be staggered by grade level:
9:00: Juniors
9:30: Seniors
10:00: Sophomores and Freshman
The 2019-20 Colorado Collegiate Handbook will be on sale for $5 at the fair.  There is a wealth of information about planning for college, financial aid and paying for college, testing, and detailed information on every college in Colorado.  It is a great resource!
In order to be eligible to attend the fair, you need to follow these directions to register for the fair and be prepared to show the barcode as your pass out of class to the fair.  See Mrs. Kofoed or  www.gotocollegefairs.com for more information.

University of Colorado Denver: Friday, Oct. 25th and Friday, Nov. 8th
MSU Denver: Saturday, Nov. 2nd
Arapahoe Community College: Friday, Oct. 18th
Colorado School of Mines: Saturday, Oct. 26th
Western Colorado University: Friday, Oct. 18th, Saturday, Nov. 16th, Friday, March 6th, and Saturday March 28th
Colorado State University: Friday, Oct. 25th
Otero Junior College: Thursday, Oct. 10th

FINANCIAL AID:
FAFSA opened on October 1st.  https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa
For some information and assistance, students can attend a presentation on Tuesday, Nov. 12th during Connections in the library.  Parents and students are invited to the presentation on the evening of Monday, Nov. 11th.  This will occur during the PTSA meeting in the library.  The meeting starts at 6:00pm.  Both presentations will be given by Western Colorado University's financial aid officer.

OTHER HAPPENINGS:
Opportunity to take an Intro to Petroleum Engineering class for free from Mines!  Looking for high school juniors or seniors with a strong interest in STEM, are currently enrolled or have completed pre-calc and chemistry or physics, have an unweighted 3.5 GPA, and have attended high school in Colorado since freshman year.  Application deadline is November 1, 2019.  Visit PETROLEUM.MINES.EDU/petromines for more information or contact Terri Snyder at tsnyder@mines.edu.

Mile High Youth Corps helps youth make a difference in themselves and in their community through meaningful service opportunities and educational experiences. The Corps employs over 200 young adults annually on projects in neighborhoods, public lands, and open spaces throughout Metro Denver and the Southern Front Range of Colorado.  For more information: https://www.milehighyouthcorps.org/program

Where? In the Bear Creek Counseling Office
Who? Your friendly BCHS counselors
What? Work on scholarship applications, essays, answer questions, college applications and apply for the featured scholarship of the week
Why? To help pay for college!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:


National Sports Center for the Disabled in Colorado: Opportunities to work with the disabled and as a bonus, possibly win Broncos swag!  Examples of work: Selling things at Broncos games, helping on the ski slopes, etc.
